National Healthcare Trust is a non-profit making Trust registered in Zimbabwe and South Africa. It is a part of Econet Wireless' corporate social responsibility and is funded by Econet to undertake all its activities across Zimbabwe.
Q. How do you identify
the areas that you work in?
At the beginning of each financial year, the Trust approaches its major stakeholder the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare for discussions regarding the state of the health delivery sector in Zimbabwe. From these meetings priority areas of great need are identified. National Healthcare Trust Zimbabwe formulates interventions that address the established needs within our strategy. Our strategic areas of focus are as follows:

Water and Sanitation coverage.
State of health facilities infrastructure.
Population served by the clinic.
Quantities of waste generated and
capacity of health facilities to treat and dispose of the waste.

Disease pattern for infectious diseases.

Q.What is the
geographical coverage of your work?
The Trust conducts activities anywhere in Zimbabwe,
including urban and rural areas. However
most of the work is situated in rural areas as these tend to be more affected
by the challenges in the health system. It is also done to bring development to
the whole nation and reduce the rural urban migration. National Healthcare
Trust also responds to medical crises such as disease outbreaks anywhere within
the borders of Zimbabwe.
Q.Do you support
individuals who require specialist medical attention?
Healthcare Trust does not support individuals with specialist requirements as
it operates on a macro level. However this kind of assistance can be accessed through
our Total Wellness and Transformation arm where medical outreaches are
supported by National Healthcare Trust in various clinics and hospitals, where doctors
and nurses sponsored by the Trust
provide their free services anywhere across Zimbabwe.
Q. Who is eligible for
your scholarship and what are the steps involved in the application?
The scholarship is open to students studying towards any Health Sciences degree that is offered at the College of Health Sciences, University of Zimbabwe. It is open to students studying at any stage within their undergraduate degree. Currently the facility is offered for students at the College of Health Sciences- University of Zimbabwe. The application is made through the registry department and once the scholarship is awarded the student signs a memorandum of understanding with the Trust which details the terms and conditions of the scholarship.
